#66, Villagers

Rooted in the spirit of community, Villagers takes its name from “village,” meaning town—a nod to its deep connection with Potchefstroom. Founded in 1978, Villagers answered the call for a student residence that would serve those living in town. As the second-oldest men’s residence on the Potchefstroom campus and the oldest town residence, Villagers has stood the test of time. 

Unlike other town residences that rebranded or closed their doors, Villagers remains true to its identity and traditions, proudly carrying the same name for over 40 years.

At Villagers, we’re committed to living by Christian values while embracing a well-rounded student experience. Life here is about more than just academics (though they come first!)—we thrive in sport, culture, community involvement, and the vibrant student life that makes university memorable.

Our emblem, Pegasus from Greek mythology, symbolizes strength, wisdom, and inspiration. Legend says Pegasus struck the earth, creating a fountain from which those who drank gained divine knowledge. This story inspires the core of who we are, embodied in a word that defines Villagers: PRIDE.
